Wild Oak Landscape Design
Martinborough
Martinborough is growing quickly, with more people moving in and building new homes - so it was a real pleasure to work on a fresh section that needed a thoughtful, cohesive landscape design to bring it all together. This new build offered great opportunities, especially with the entire driveway, entertaining area, and edible garden all facing north. That orientation meant we had to be clever with how the spaces connected, making sure each area worked well on its own but also flowed beautifully as a whole.

At the heart of the design is a covered outdoor entertainment area, which will include in-situ concrete seating and benches once completed. This central space was carefully positioned between two established pear trees, giving it a sense of maturity and structure from the outset. Designing around these trees gave the whole space a grounded feel, and they’ll offer dappled shade and a lovely seasonal element as they grow and change throughout the year.

The driveway, which stretches along the north side, needed to remain functional -especially with the inclusion of a turnaround bay. Instead of letting that area feel overly practical or disconnected, I integrated it into the edible garden space, softening the hardscape and making sure it felt like part of the garden rather than an afterthought. The planting here includes productive elements alongside ornamental touches, helping to tie everything together.

One of my favourite details was placing a large yellow feature pot at the end of the long drive. It draws your eye in and adds a bold splash of colour that lifts the space and creates a welcoming focal point. Overall, this was a project about balance - function and beauty, structure and softness. It’s always exciting to be part of the growing Martinborough landscape, and even more so when the result feels so connected to the home and its surroundings.
