Wild Oak Landscape Design

This project involved designing a large deck extension that truly maximises the stunning views overlooking the highway. The clients wanted the outdoor space to feel like a natural extension of their kitchen - a place where their young family could come together, learn, play, and enjoy the outdoors as part of daily life. Central to this was an outdoor fire feature that not only provides warmth and atmosphere but also frames the beautiful outlook, becoming a focal point within the wider landscape.

One of the client’s specific requests was a sandpit for the kids - but with the flexibility to cover it when not in use. To meet this need, I suggested integrating the sandpit directly into the deck design. This way, it’s a seamless part of the outdoor area and can easily be covered when needed, keeping the space tidy without compromising on fun or safety.
An aluminium pergola was added above the deck, providing much-needed shade during sunny days. But more than just functionality, the pergola’s clean, linear design casts beautiful patterns of shade, adding a dynamic visual element that shifts with the light throughout the day. It brings structure and softness at once, creating rhythm and movement across the space.

This design blends practicality with beauty - creating a safe, engaging environment that supports family life, encourages outdoor learning and play, and ensures the stunning natural setting remains an integral part of everyday living. It was a real pleasure to bring this vision to life for a family so connected to their space and values.
